Collective identity theory
The soap opera advert that will be created is the represent ion of teenagers as a social group. In the advert there will be different stereotypes of teenagers for example geek, chav, rebellious, popular local stud and independent. Teenagers are seen in many different ways and most teenagers have labels put on them for example chav, this suggests they are expected to act and look a certain way to go with the stereotypes. The media makes teenagers look at themselves the way the media has represented them as. Many TV shows like soap operas, sitcoms and the news all build up this image of teenagers which is exaggerated and influences the audience to view teenagers in this way. For example the character Gaz (Gary) in Hollyoaks is described as the village menace, he has harassed many people, got expelled from school and attempted to assault Nancy. Overall he is not described as the nicest teenager and people make assumptions that all teenagers are like that.
In the new soap advert, there is going to be a catwalk where different stars of the new soap will walk down. All the characters will be dressed and will act a certain way to show which stereotype they belong to. Teenagers are very aware of their bodies and image, also they are image conscience so the catwalk will show the audience what teenagers are like and the characters. All teenagers can relate to each character because most teenagers are conscience about their image and want to look their best. Catwalk are a good example of how people can show their character and image to give the audience an introduction to the new soap. Each character will walk a certain way and the camera shots and the editing will represent each character to their chosen stereotype.

Soaplife Eastenders poster
SituationAll the characters are doing different poses in different sections of the pub. The poster is for Eastenders celebrating 25 years.
The different poses in the advert are Dot near the front is raising her glass for 25 years of Eastenders, the couple to the right the man is holding the woman while she leans into the advert. The lady with the red hair and the suitcase looks like she is leaving the street. Pat and Lucas are sitting at the table having a nice drink. Behind them a man is lifting someone out the bar, which looks like a bit of trouble. Peggy and Billy are behind the bar, Peggy is giving the lady who is leaving a funny look. Phil has one hand on his hips looking at the lady who is leaving. Stacey is posing on the bar table and the man behind her is looking suspicious in his black hat.
All the characters are posing and are layered on top of each other. I really like this effect because it shows the storylines that will be coming up and the character's personalities can be shown. I like the perspective where some charcters are in the foreground and some characters are in the background.
The colours used on this advert are the text is silver, pink and black. The colours used in the image on the costume are blue, grey, green, black, leapard print and brown. They are all wearing different clothes but all the clothes link and match together. The colours in the pub are red and brown. The pub's colour and lighting is very dark and gloomy. The biggest font is the 'Eastender 25'.
The mise-en-scene used are drinks because they are in a pub and they are celebrating 25 years, seats, table and bar equipment. A character is holding a suitcase suggesting she is leaving the street.
At the bottom there are some of the best stories that happened in the 80s, 90s and the year 2000. For example 'Who shot Phil?' in the year 2000.

"Soaplife" is the masthead of the magazine which has stories only about soap operas. The main stories are about Eastenders but there are small straplines about other soap that appear in the magaizne for example Coronation Street.
The colours used in the magazine are bright, the colours used are red, pink, yellow, white and black. The font styles used are bold, big and simple. There are different ranges of sizes, the biggest font is the masthead, then the biggest story "Death Plunge?" and the straplines text is a lot smaller.
The main image is of the character Bradley in Eastenders who commits suicide, the image is a medium closeup, showing his shoulders.
What's on TV magazine front cover
The masthead of this magazine is "What's on TV", it is a television guide with soap pages displaying the weekly stories of each soap. The front cover shows the top stories from the different soaps. The main story is from Eastenders, the Kicker is "Wedding Killer!" suggesting there is going to be a murder case during a wedding. The straplines around the edge are about Eastenders like the marriage of Bianca and Ricky. This magazine is an Eastenders special because Eastenders has been filmed for 25 years therefore the majority of the stories are about Eastenders.
The colours used in the magazine and very bright and there is a large variety for example pink, red, white, green, yellow, blue and black. The masthead has its own colour (red) which is used for every magazine copy and the other colours are put together. The font styles are straight, simple and bold except the font of EastEnders is thin and has the style Times New Romans. The Kicker is the biggest colour because the stories are going to attract the audience of the magazine the most.
The magazine has a page turn to let the reader know what is inside and to the reader a sneaky peak of other stories that they can read about. The price of the magazine is very cheap because it is only 49p. The bar code is placed at the bottom in the centre of the magazine.
At the top there is a skyline which say "AT LAST! Revealed: Who killed Archie!" this makes the reader interested that they will finally know the mystery or secret of the story.

This is an example of a catwalk clip, I like this clip because I like the use of bright lighting and the contrast of colour which are mostly black and red. The red carpet looks really effective with the flashing lights which represent the cameras from the fans.

This is a example of a catwalk clip, the video clip above shows the opening scene of Big Brother with the red carpet and all the fans in the background. The soap opera is going incorporate this idea and use it to advertise for the new soap. The use of the flashing lights is very effective and I like this effect. Neighbours poster
Characters The characters are all positioned on different levels and they all layered in front or behind each other. I like the way they are showing their personality and relationships with one another. They are arranged in families and some characters are standing and some are on the floor.
There are a few props which the characters are holding for example flowers, an instrument, parrots and skateboard
The advert is for Neighbours because they are moving to channel Five, the channel, the time and the soap name is displayed on the bottom right hand corner. The street name "Same Ramsay St, New Home" is on a road sign. The houses of where the characters live in are displayed in the background.
All the characters are wearing casual, everyday clothes that they would normally wear during the soap. This includes polo necks, shirts, tops, cardigans, jeans, trousers and shorts.

Narrative
The narrative for the neighbours advert is sad and slow. The stories are the break up between Dan and Libby, which is caused by the Steph and Dan kissing. The advert suggests a character is leaving with the captions.
Lighting
The lighting used is natural lighting from the sun with a few spotlights to make it look brighter.
Camera Work
The shots mostly used is mid shot so the audience can follow the storyline and action, there is a dolly shot which is attached to Lucas' motorbike to follow him riding, the camera angle for this shot is a high angle to show the authority Lucas has.
Editing
The camera shots last for 1-2 seconds long which is very quick. There are captions and rhetorical questions or statements about the storyline. For example "a love scandal ... will shock you" and someone say goodbye ... forever". The advert also questions whether the different characters are leaving for example "Dan?", "Lucas?". This creates a mystery to audience because they want to find out who will leave and what happened in the love scandal.

The mise-en-scene used in this advert is the costumes are casual wear for example Lucas is wearing a biker's jacket and Dan is wearing a shirt. Different forms of travel are used in the advert for example Lucas' motor bike and Dan's car suggesting someone is going to leave the street.

Hollyoaks Trailer Reseach

Narrative
The narrative of Hollyoaks trailer is a few characters are dancing in ball gowns and suits, they are all giving each other funny look and then they start getting nasty. While they are dancing they will bump into each other, nudging, stamping on feet, pushing and throwing drink. The trailer uses the technique of intertexuality and uses similar ideas to "Strightly Come Dancing" because the name of the trailer is called "Strightly Not For The Faint Hearted" and the characters are all dancing, at the end there are judges rating the performance with similar card used in strightly come dancing.
Lighting
The lighting used in the advert is low lighting with very strong extreme bright lighting to create an eerie and dark atmosphere of the different stories on the soap like murder, affairs, romance and danger.
Camera work
The camera work used in the trailers is mostly mid shots showing the characters as if the audience was apart of the action and storyline going on. This also makes them feel involved with the soap opera. The camera follows all the action, for example there is a closeup of the feet being stamped on. Also when a drink is thrown at another character. The last shot shows a high angle of Calvin to show he has authority.
The movements used is a tilt to slowly look up at Calvin Valentine on the floor on the floor because he was pushed. All the actions of the cast suggest the stories that coming up for example when the marriage of the characters Calvin and Carmel falls apart and the fights between the different characters. There are a few dolly shots following the action and the characters.

There are 35-40 shots in a 40 second clip and each shot is different length ranging from 0.5-4 seconds maximum. The shots are all quick and snappy, only quick cuts are used. This creates a fast upbeat advert.
Mise-en-scene
The mise-en scene used in the advert is the costumes are all ball gowns and suits to create a formal occasion or to make them look like dancers in Strightly Come Dancing, who all wear smart outfits. There is the score card which the judges hold up at the end to show their opinion of the dancing which is also used on Strightly Come Dancing. There is also a red drink which is thrown at Calvin to suggest evil, pain or death. There is also use of spotlights to create an eerie atmosphere. Carmel is wearing a tiara to show her authority.

Digital Technolgies Skills Audit
I have a lot of experience using Desk Top Publishing software, I can create text boxes, change text size, insert text, change size or colour of text. I can also layer objects, change order of objects and rotate objects. I can also change the layout and format of the page by using different colours and moving objects to the correct position.
In Photoshop I can add or delete backgrounds or images, change the opacity of an image, layer images, select a section of an image and delete or change the style or format of the section. I can add text, crop, remove red eye, clone, blur and make the image sharper.
I have only used a camcorder once so I can't remember how to load the tape, in camera edit, how to zoom and using different settings like black and white. I have used a tripod on a digital camera so I think it would be similar to a camcorder.
I have only used editing software once and I really enjoyed using it but I need a reminder on how to do the different techniques like capturing footage, cut footage, move footage, change time speed, add effects, remove sound, add soundtrack, create movie and rewind images.
